OUR PHiLOSOPHY
Kids who love to draw want more than they can get in a school
classroom setting. This observation fueled the Line Upon Line approach to
art instruction. My passion is to provide an environment that challenges
and equips students ages 9 through 18 who have a hunger to expand their drawing
and art skills. In small class settings of 6-10 students, a systematic
foundation of art and drawing fundamentals is laid through various exercises and
projects. The result is students achieving
growth, success and confidence in their artistic endeavors. Classes
include exercises in life drawing and still life, as well as outdoor sketching
as weather permits.
ABOUT THE TEACHER
As a child, Cathy Feeman
always loved drawing. After receiving
various High School art competition awards, she received a scholarship
from Psi Iota Chi and attended The American Academy of Art
in Chicago, where she majored in
Illustration. After a 2-year apprenticeship with a Chicago art studio, she spent 12 years as a
Chicago freelance illustrator,
and was chosen to participate in the Air Force Art Program.
In 1995, seeing the need for an Art program at the school her children attended, she accepted the position as the art teacher for Cornerstone Christian School in South Chicago Heights. She continued as a freelance illustrator while teaching art classes for the next five years for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade, with an additional class for High School students. During that time she also taught 1st through 8th grade art students at Deer Creek School in University Park.
Cathy is currently a member of both Illiana Artists and the Chicago Calligraphy Collective, where she serves as the Exhibits Director. Cathy continues to play and experiment with new media and has a new-found love for watercolors; she has recently exhibited and received awards for her paintings. Cathy resides in Highland, Indiana with her husband and two children.
